School Daze

Dear Superintendent Blevins, Principal Stump et al,

Last year, Staunton River High School made headline news throughout the United States due to the unfortunate MRSA-related death of one of its own, Ashton Bonds. I, like many other parents and county residents, was stricken by the loss and hoped for an infinitely less painful school year in 2009.

You have already disappointed me. My son came home from his first day in high school describing a guest speaker, Minister Ken Freeman. In his speech, Freeman addressed a variety of topics to include the rape of his then five year old sister and his mother's alcoholism. How is this school appropriate? What is a minister doing in a public school?

Let me make this point crystal clear. You keep a clean, germ-free, non-MRSA infected school. I and I alone will watch out for my son's soul.

Shame on you!

Dana Soltani

[End Note: I cc'ed the ACLU, CNN, the Washington Post, and others on that message].

OMG don't even get me started on the school system(s) here. I am so mortified by this and so very sorry your son had to go thru this total BS.

Im not even going to put into words what is going through my mind at this moment as it is all very rude.

((((HUGS))))

Dana, this is just so wrong! Good for you for jumping right on it and letting the "powers that be" have a piece of your mind!

Being a former employee of this school system..I'm not remotely surprised~..just look at it's leader!
I'm so sorry this is the type guest speakers they have for 'our children'..what next?

Way to go Dana..couldn't agree more. Schools should be secular and certainly clean.
