Question... are you seaming up along the shoulders too far in on the neck area? I clicked and got the bigger photo to look, wishing I had a bsj here in hand to compare, but alas, I don't... dang. That's the only thing I can think of as to why your necks are coming out that small.
I should probably knit a wee bitty bsj just to have around, besides, I really love them.
