The hanks are Wings (very soft alpaca) and the mini-skeins (90m) are Shepherd's "Colour 4 Me." They're an Australian superwash 100% wool. The Shepherd's is only $2.25 each now, so if you'd like some, I'll pick it up for you and put it in the box with the Betty's knitted square. Just let me know. :)
Oooooooh! What a beautiful haul! I was wondering the same thing, Dana, you need to let the names on the ballbands show....how lucky for you! the two lys around here don't really carry the 'middle-ground' wool, like the Shepherd's, or Dale's....I keep wondering if I opened a ys and carried them...surely I'm not the only knitter in town who would like to have them in hand... Again, beautiful haul! Have a Happy Easter!
You ought to open up an LYS Marianne...you'd be a phenomenal success, I'm sure! I know what you mean about "middle of the road" wool and I'd love to see more of it too. I haven't tried Dale's at all, but I've used Galway on a couple of occasions and it was nice, affordable and felted well. Some days, you just want functional...not "foo foo fiber." :)
Yay for yarn shopping!! I think we can all relate to the guilt/anxiety that comes when entering a yarn shop. I always end up buying more than I meant to. Just Wednesday I went into my LYS for some yarn for a hat (just a hat... a gift hat no less) and walked out with enough for a new cardigan (Hot Lava Cardigan in Manos del Uruguay) and a significant dent in my credit card. Oops.
Dana, I love the Dale Baby Ull, makes great basic socks, and yes, it washes up soft...and the DK weight, don't remember the name, and the worsted, it's all nice yarn. Seriously, I've thought about it...but with online stores so available...it's a bit of a crap shoot...but I would so love to have a yarn store! (thank you for your vote of confidence :^)
